Summer 2008 Program Dates
University of New Hampshire, Durham
ESST1 will be held from July 21 - August 1, 2008
ESST2 will be held from July 24 - August 1, 2008
TESSE is specifically designed for in-service (current) and pre-service (future) teachers.
In-service (Current) Teachers
The two main components offered to in-service teachers are
1) a two-week summer course in Earth Science covering the topics of planetary science, lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and systems approaches that examine the linkages between Earth’s major components;
2) graduate students or pre-service teachers may partner with current teachers in their classrooms and/or in planning Earth System science related activities. The goal of this activity is to develop a mutual relationship between teacher and university student, where the university student provides content support to the teacher and students; and the teacher provides a sensitivity toward classroom issues facing Earth Science education.

Pre-service (Future) Teachers
The main components offered to pre-service teachers are packaged as a complete 10-week program comprised of
1) a two-week summer course in Earth Science covering the topics of planetary science, lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and systems approaches that examine the linkages between Earth’s major components;
2) an eight-week full-time summer research immersion program to gain experience while being mentored by expert Earth scientists at UNH. Scheduling the research program is flexible, but must begin before the Summer Course begins, and end before the start of the Fall Academic Semester. Modest supplementary funds are available to offset costs for research supplies and travel.
